Having Fun with Holiday Social Media Posts

  • March 17, 2015

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Have you addressed this “holiday” on your business social media profiles yet? Should you? Let’s go inside the strategy of mentioning holidays on your social media accounts.
Social media thrives off human connection and interaction. Social media mediums allow us to voice our opinions and express ourselves with other like-minded individuals and professionals.
Posting holiday announcements or wishes gives us the opportunity to establish ourselves as relatable and personable. These posts are often accompanied with an image reflective of the current holiday. As images are more noticed by followers than pure content, it is a great way to engage with your audience. Acknowledging holidays also allows you to establish yourself as a current and relevant professional. Whether you tie the holiday into your industry or simply post a “Happy Saint Patrick’s Day” message, you are showing you are aware of and monitoring current information and trends.
There are a lot of holidays. Does this mean you need to acknowledge each one? No. Do you need to be respectful and aware of them as a professional engaging on social media? Yes.
As social media is a worldwide platform of engagement, it will obviously attract users of all different backgrounds and beliefs. The key to not harming your reputation is maintaining an open-minded and all-inclusive view of your audience. People celebrate different holidays for different reasons. So go ahead and acknowledge the ones you partake in with a post and image while remaining appropriate.
Another twist to these posts can be adding a spin to the holiday and incorporating it with your industry. “Find Your Lucky Home” could be a fun way of mentioning the holiday and weaving it into your business strategy.
Establish early on if your social media business strategy includes holiday posts. Remember, it’s not necessary to hit on every holiday celebrated worldwide but do remain respectful of these days. Social media is all about awareness so simply being aware of holidays being celebrated could prevent offensive or distasteful posts from being published at inappropriate times.
