Create an Outdoor Oasis

  • May 01, 2015

As the weather warms up, our eyes turn to the outdoors and spending more time comfortably lounging in nature. No matter your style, here are some ways to spruce up your yard and create your personal outdoor oasis that will be the envy of the neighborhood.
Creating a fun and comfortable seating area for you and your guests encourages you to enjoy the outdoors. Whether you splurge on reclining Adirondack chairs or cushioned outdoor couches, a cozy area to relax is one of the most common upgrades made to outdoor living spaces.
For those late nights lounging outside, consider investing in heating. Depending on the style you are going for, heating lamps, lanterns, candles, and even a fire pit are all great forms for creating a warm spot while also highlighting your oasis.
Now that you’re warm, remember that you will need some light to see by. Hang a string of large bulbs around your seated area or add some hanging lanterns. Consider decorating with candles on a table and lighting walkways with solar powered lights. Soft lighting throughout the yard will bring your outdoor oasis to life at night.
Separating your yard into areas is a great way to break up a sprawling landscape. A lounge area coupled with a game zone, a pool, a BBQ pit, or a garden helps highlight different features of your yard in an organized way. For example, put your seating area up on a deck, a BBQ pit off the deck area in its own zone, and croquet and games on the lawn.
While not necessary, developing your outdoor oasis around a theme can help tie all of the areas together. Go for fun and summery with bright and refreshing colors. Highlight your patriotism with a yard full of Americana. Use bold shapes on pillows or decorations to create a modern look. Have fun with it. After all, this is your area to go and unwind!
A garden is a great accent to a yard. Growing fruits and vegetables or just an area of greenery helps establish a calming and refreshing atmosphere. Besides a garden, remember to keep your lawn mowed and shrubs trimmed. A little cleaning up can go a long way in creating a eye-catching yard.
Waterfalls and fountains add a focal point to a yard as well as create the calming background noise of moving water. Whether you go for a huge display or a smaller, more intricate piece, these always add character to your yard.
Use these seven tips to create the outdoor oasis you have been dreaming of today. Now is the perfect time as the weather gets warmer and we start aching for some fresh air.
