Prepping for a Conference
Whether you are a frequent traveller or heading out to your first business conference, there are some steps that should be taken each time to ensure you are properly prepared for a conference in order to get the most out of it.
1. Research Highlight Speakers – You will most likely know of most, if not all, the keynote speakers at the conference you will be attending. Take the time beforehand to research them online. Read up on their backgrounds and areas of expertise to better understand how to apply their speech and pointers to your job or business.
2. Set Up Your Social Media – Does the conference have a unique hashtag? A Facebook page? Be sure to follow all advertised social conversations on your personal profiles. Check out keynote speakers’ profiles and connect with them. Tweeting them during the conference or leaving them a comment afterwards is a great way to keep the engagement going and possibly learn even more.
3. Bring the Proper Tools – Know ahead of time if you will need any special equipment for the conference. If not, make sure you always have a pen, pad of paper, and business card handy. So bring lots!
4. Know Where to Go – Do not be that person to show up late, or in the wrong location. Double check the address, know the best way to get there, and figure out how long it will take you to travel that morning. Be sure to check if parking is in a different location or requires cash or a pass.
Stop wasting time and money on conferences you are not getting the most out of. Conferences have proven to be an exceptionally useful tool in networking, learning, and growing strategies.
